Pikes Peak Purple Beard Tongue

I bought this plant from Lowe's last year. It was dying and on sale for $2.50. I bought it anyway. I planted it in my front yard flower garden and within a week it was back to life. I love this plant it is very colorful and attracts lots of butterflies and bees that I like to photograph. It doesn't require much watering and is pretty hardy. It is a must have for any garden. The Pikes Peak Purple Beard Tongue really is a proven winner.

Front Yard Face Lift

My front yard is in serious need of a face lift so one of my goals this year is to give my front yard a full make-over. I started with a small bush by my front steps. I hate that bush. It would not be so bad if the roots went down deep in the soil but instead they spread around the bush just a couple of inches under the soil. This creates the problem of small bushes growing into my azaleas. Also I cant plant anything when there are roots in my way. So the bush had to go. This called for a heavy metal chain and a powerful truck. Luckily the bush came right out because the roots were so so close to the surface of the soil. The next step was to fertilize the soil with some black cow and garden soil. The final step was to plant the goods. My plants of choice where Impatiens, Saliva, Snapdragon, Stock, and Red and Blue Columbine. Oh and I cant forget the water that is the most important part. That's it. That was the first part to my front yard make-over.

Pansy

This is a very cool flower. The Pansy. They are known for their hardiness. However many people do not know that Pansy flowers are eatable. That's right they really are. Many caterers use the flower on cakes and things. They can also be put in a salad. They might not have a strong taste however they do brighten up a salad by giving it some color. Pansies come in many sizes and colors. They all have a design in the center of the petals that looks like a butterfly. Pansies look great anywhere in your garden.

Rise My Children Rise

I feel like a mother of 15 or more babies. Thankfully my babies don't poop 9 times a day and I only have to fed them 3 times a week. Does that make me a bad mother? If you haven't figured out by now my babies are my seedlings that are emerging. About 4 more weeks and I should be able to transplant them into my new above ground flower bed. A close friend of mine once asked "Why do they call it a Flower Bed? Why cant it be a Flower Couch or a Flower Chair?" I had no answer to his question but I started wondering the same thing.

Up Up and Away.

I started growing some seeds indoors last Sunday. I was surprised when I saw a green sprout had already came up through the soil to see its first day of sunlight. That was fast it only took 5 days for that seed to germinate and pop out through the soil. It was suppose to take longer than five days however I have a Green Thumb. I cant wait for planting time.

Sunny day.

The weather is going to be warm this week end so that means I can do some gardening. I have a bed of bulbs and in them I have some Bearded Irises. They are a beautiful Purple and Yellow color. They are called Bearded Iris because of the yellow or orange fluff that comes out of the center of the flower. The beard and the petals is what attracts the bees so the bees can pollinate the flowers. The Iris is one of many flowers were the leaves stay green all year even in the dead of winter. However after a long period of time you have to separate the bulbs so they are not so close together. If they are to close only few flowers will bloom. The bulbs also hatch little baby bulbs so you never have to buy more. That's a big plus.

Art on My Pants

I really enjoy my art class. I sit with my friend Ethan and a couple of other classmates which are now my friends too. We laugh so much in class my abs are sore by the time the bell rings. However we still do all our work. Right now we are doing a pastel of some art work bye a famous artist called Gergia O' Keeffe. At first I thought the artist was a man but I found out its a woman. I love all her art because most of her work is on plants and flowers, which I love to grow. I searched through almost all her work until I found the perfect work of art by her. Its a breath taking red, orange, and yellow flower that I believe is a Cana Lilly. The only bad part of this is that pastel is messy. It gets every where and spreads like wildfire. I have learned not to scratch my face while using pastel. Some how embarrassment follows me. At the end of class my friend Jalicia said I had something on the back of my jeans. I look to see what it is and found that there was red Pastel all over the lower part of my jeans. Yaaa!! Just what I need to finish off my look. She went to get a wet paper towel and actually helped me wipe it off my jeans. Its good to have friends. However the red had somehow turned to pink. Whoop Whoop. Even better that did not go with anything I was wearing ( which was a lot of light blue ). So this is embarrassment number two for this week. Cant wait to see what happens tomorrow.
